If your first attack fails, it is important not to reset and re-start back at the beginning. Learn all possible reactions and counters your opponent can have to any given technique and train yourself to be quick to take advantage of them. If your initial attack is the leg bump sweep and your opponent blocks it by posting his elbow immediately attack with the hip bump sweep and finish on top.
