Another option when escaping the 50/50 guard after smashing your opponent's outside leg is to spin and pass to the side control. It will be important that you look for the far side underhook as you are doing this technique. This will give you more control over your opponent as you pass and establish the side control. It will also give you the leverage to free your foot if it gets trapped at any point.
